When in doubt, add a bit of action. Over at the ten ton studio, this weeks sketch challenge is the defenders… a superhero team which includes the Hulk, so I read a Hulk story, and basically it was 30 pages of stuff being shot, and smashed up… which is considerably easier to write than dialogue.

Normal service may be resumed next week.

Drawing stuff: Staedtler 0.5mm pigment pen, and COPIC markers on light weight watercolour paper.

Soundtrack: the click click of knitting, the dull sound of foopballists on the telly.

there’s something behind you

If you read the script Adam is compiling over at http://www.wychwolf.co.uk you’ll see that what was originally planned here was a bit of dull conversation, and some bumbling around an airfield.. maybe the view of an office, perhaps a few interesting moustaches. I decided we needed to ramp the action back up again… and so thought it might be nice to have something follow Eric through the woods.

Art stuff: all done on the mac this week, Photoshop elements.

Soundtrack: My wife practicing her violin.. this doesn’t sound too bad until you realise that she hasn’t played in about 16 years.

Words, words words…

A brief respite from the fun and frolics down in the crypt, with all those werewolf things, and psychotropic drugs. Our man Eric is the “star in a reasonably priced car” for the next few weeks, as he investigates the airman, so cruelly mauled. The first frame of this strip is a photo from Ashdown Forest, on the edge of an MOD training ground. It’s one of the things that sparked the ideas for he story in the first place.

Art Stuff: Staedtler 0.3 and 0.7mm pigment pens on DELETER Manga paper.

Soundtrack: The bubbling mud sound of appalling DAB, leading to irritation and silence, broken only by the munching of apples, and the buzz of countryside insects.

I’ve been wondering how Dr Duvall here was going to retrieve his Scarecrow like syringe setup, and then the Autons returned in Dr Who… it made immediate sense, Duvall surely wouldn’t let it lie in “improving” just his subjects, but would surely augment himself too.

Art Stuff, still stomping away with Daler Bristol Board, and a Staedtler Pigment liner 0.5mm. The next few weeks are pages I drew a while back, so the style and tools change a little.

Grandstanding never ever works.

If you are a villain, you should just get on with being a villain, you shouldn’t tell your plans to the good guys, you should probably just shoot them. Anyway, I’ve mixed it up a little, a touch of grandstanding, then back to fighting.

Braiinssssss

Down, there in the dark, no-one can hear you scream, no-one but the eyeless, earless corpses, rotting in their tombs.

There’s some argument about what makes a Zombie… the zombies here are the result of fiendish experiments, more of which in future strips. But suffice to say there’s a tenuous link to scientific reality. The experiments on reviving dogs, replacing their hearts can be found on You tube, the chemical side of things, from the legend of the werewolf, which stems from ergot infection of ryebreads. These days ergot is used to create a drug that helps heart patients, Ergotamine, I had a friend who used to be a pharma salesman, and he’d say it had nutritional properties too.. If he sold it he got to eat.

Art stuff… Staedtler pigment liners on whatever paper was lying around, scanned and messed with in Photoshop elephants 4, on the mac.

Soundtrack: New Morning, Bob Dylan… Astral weeks, Van Morrision… Ingrid Bergman, Billy Bragg…

Life imitating art

I’ve just been for a walk up on Ashdown Forest, right near the Wych Cross crossroads, and the MOD training area. We stopped for a cup of tea by the side of the road, and an old Rover like the one I put in the last WychWolf strip, pulled up at the side of the road…

Felt a bit strange.
