A year is a fairly long time to be overrun by Zombies, but that’s life.
I’ve finished by BSc so can now crack on with finishing this arc of the Wychwolf story. Work is turbulent, and there is a distinct possibility I’ll have lots more time on my hands in the near future
Art wise- things haven’t changed much. I’ve done very little proper work in the past year, though I’ve done some “Graphic facilitation” found some cracking new pens and paper, and have bought a Cintiq. Worth a quick look at www.strangebiros.co.uk to see the sort of stuff I’ve been doing.
Last weekend was 24HCD, but I was suffering from a weedy cold, so only managed 8 pages. However they were 8 “ok” pages, and it was a good warm up for getting back to Wychwolf… as I sort of had BPRD helping out BrightAngel with an aquatic squid peril.
I listened to a podcast with John Allison who creates “Bad Machinery” talking to Dan Berry this morning as I walked the dog across the frosty fields. It was strangely depressing for me, as John is very forthright, and honest in criticising the UK Web-comic community, for it’s lack of professionalism, and the inability of the artists to sell stuff. Having been on the table next to John at the last UK webcomix thing I understand what he is talking about, and feel I am definitely in the poor performing camp. But what do I do about it? Do I knuckle down and pull out the stops and only produce the very best work I can? Or do I give up? I’m not sure. I’ve enjoyed learning in public, whilst working on the Wychwolf story, but sometimes it really is a lot of old bother.
The 24HCD 2012 story I did with Gerald and Brian is now in the iBooks store for free.
Having a whole story to test out the new ibooks author tool, and submission process is really useful. I have a Children’s story book that I’ve been working on for ages… and I understand the ibooks process reasonably well now.
I did have an idea that I’d bundle all of the first arc of the story into am ibook, but it’s a fair bit of effort, and there are MANY pages in Wychwolf1 that need reworking…
I’m surprised I managed to get Monday’s page done today. I meant to prep it during the week, as I knew I’d be busy with 24HCD on Saturday, but it didn’t happen.
So this week you get 25 pages of Wychwolf stuff.
The 24HCD story is wrapped up as a .pdf and linked in the blog post below.
I’ll probably make a cleaned up version at some point, as you have to let some things slip when rushing out 24 pages in 24 hours.
The star of the show for those interested in Arty stuff was the Micron 0.8 pigment liner. I had a slight hiccup with it where it seemed to lift when erasing, but a switch to copier paper seemed to do the trick.
That’s me done for a week.
Hope tou enjoy the 24HCD thing.
Uh oh, interlude is over, and we are back in train, except that next Saturday is 24HR comic day and that means I’m going to be pretty strung out.
Last year I succeeded in creating an A-Z comic in the 24 Hours, though it was probably more like a Children’s book, than a true comic.
This year I hope to do a Wychwolf related story, though obviously its against the spirit of the challenge anything beforehand. However I do like the idea of doing something simple, like some of the self contained Hellboy comics that offer little explanation or preamble, and usually end up with some big punchy fight.
Guess you’ll have to wait till next week to find out.
In theory if I do 24Hrs from Saturday morning through to Sunday morning, I should have something I can post to the Wychwolf site on Monday (I usually use http://www.strangebiros.co.uk for the 24HCD challenge)
Next week, someone’s gonna be punching something, even if it’s not in the script.
// Gerald turns to face Eric, and punches him square in the face, Eric unleashes a stream of //ionised energy from his backpack, Brian gets over excited and eats Alan Turing…
Been working hard in my job job this week, which means I’m a bit tiredy today.
However I have managed to get Monday’s page up, and colour a few pages of the iBook I’m working on, and start populating a gallery of pictures over at www.robenglebright.com
Not much else to say, except of course, Happy Birthday to Alan Turing for yesterday.
Well, I managed to struggle through taking photos of sketches and bodging stuff all together in PS. I have ordered new scanner, and have plans to turn the old one into a lightbox.
Not sure how visible the ghosts are in the last panel, but there you go.
Thought I’d pick out the line about being fastened to a rock for the title, what with this weekend being the release of prometheus and all…
Not enough detail on the ghosts, means we need an extra page to show the detail…
Lazy lazy lazy, that’s me.
I’ve been toying with a new ipad2 app from Autocad.. sketchbook ink…. for a summary of my views see the post on strangebiros
Basically I’m not that happy with it, however I thought I’d give it a bash for drawing some faces… and sketched out Gerald, and Florence. Whilst the original outlines are far from perfect, the ability to scribble and then export to dropbox meant I could sit upstairs in the sunshine with my iPad… before descending into the gloom to tart them up in Photoshop.
Anyway, because I spent so much time fiddling, I ran out of effort for the first two panels, and so they get stock backgrounds, and silhouettes…
I have an idea for a strip featuring Alan Turing, that I managed to work out in the time it took to have a shower, and unusually I then wrote it down (which took longer) so I may actually do it …
Long weekend coming up, the perfect time for a summer special…
