I’m surprised I managed to get Monday’s page done today. I meant to prep it during the week, as I knew I’d be busy with 24HCD on Saturday, but it didn’t happen.
So this week you get 25 pages of Wychwolf stuff.
The 24HCD story is wrapped up as a .pdf and linked in the blog post below.
I’ll probably make a cleaned up version at some point, as you have to let some things slip when rushing out 24 pages in 24 hours.
The star of the show for those interested in Arty stuff was the Micron 0.8 pigment liner. I had a slight hiccup with it where it seemed to lift when erasing, but a switch to copier paper seemed to do the trick.
That’s me done for a week.

Happy New Year

wychwolf part 2 page 6

And we roll into the new year… Wychwolf has been going for nearly 2 years. Hard to believe.

Anyway, meet the gang ‘cos the boys are here, the boys to entertain you. I spent about 3 days working on the background, and about 20 minutes on the characters… which I am almost certain I will regret when I have to draw them again. I watched “Captain America” on video with Dom a couple of days ago and was struck by the bold stereotypes  of his team. I seem to remember them from my early comic reading.. pretty sure the burly guy with the bowler hat was in SHIELD too…(Just checked… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dum_Dum_Dugan and I was right) What the team need is some identifiable props… will work on this.

All done in photoshop Elements 10 on my mac mini, using my rink dink little wacom bamboo.

Going down

wychwolf part 2 page 4

I first drew the gates in this picture about twenty years ago. They are the back gates to Appuldurcombe House on the Isle of Wight. I drew them for my friend John who runs the dairy farm there, and wanted some postcards for his B&B business. I’ve always thought they were very well balanced, and rather splendid, even though they are hidden from public view down a nettle bound track.

So back in the wychwolf universe, it’s a month or so after the events at the end of wychwolf part 1, Florence and Brian have been  recovering in the Institute’s (London) infirmary – Brian under observation by Eric (since he’s the only one to come out of this un-injured in some way) and the research team for his werewolfism (or whatever). Gerald and Brian have just collected Brian’s stuff, and we pick up the story as they arrive at the BrightAngel Foundation.

I’ve been on holiday, and started a new job… it feels strange that I can have squeezed so much into such short a time.

Look out for that little dog.. oh no, too late

Poor little dog. Lucky Dr Duvall was there with some clever “gadgets”.. or was it?

Art stuff: This one was drawn in a different way altogether.. sketched and inked in Manga studio which has a rather pleasing pen tool, BUT drives me round the bend in a lot of other ways. Coloured  and speech bubbled in Photoshop elements 4.

DragonSlayers

Adam has been working on the Novelisation of the story, and has also been working on an timeline for the world in which Wychwolf happens. We have some back story on the BrightAngel Foundation, and Adam has worked this up into a timeline. The Foundation was established by Royal Charter by Alfred the Great, and charged to keep the kingdom free of Dragons, and all manner of diverse ills which plague the nation.

Whatever you do, don’t Blink

Last Night after a good three quarters of an hour of carefully crafted DrWho screenplay the BBC let Mr Norton contaminate things with a “coming up next, who wants to be the next celebrity dancing on Dogs?” lower third, dispelling all the tension.  (At least that’s what happened in the UK, I know a lot of you readers are from the US, so might have been saved from this)

Anyway, the point behind the post was that there was a lot of effort in the Dr Who show to get the set nice and dark…to set an atmosphere… it was riffing on the “Aliens” theme, a team of commandos working their way through the dark… It prompted me to work on a few backgrounds for the story and make them dark.

I too have a team who are going to be entering the dark, who knows what horrors await?

return of the tentacles

When I was at the UK Webcomix thing, I was rather taken by a tentacled bandana worn by our table neighbour… so I bought one…

It arrived today, and spurred me into having another go at the tentacled fiend whom we first meet in the sewers of London. Whilst I was deliberately trying a different style, I am quite surprised at the marked contrast in the style, of page 1, and tonights effort.

His Britannic Majesty…

I was watching “Waking the Dead”, on my ipod at the Gym, when it occurred to me that the ever present flashing of warrant cards, is pretty meaningless unless you know what one is supposed to look like.

I searched, but couldn’t find much of any use, so decided to make my own for the BrightAngel team…
