I’m trying to get a bit more accuracy into the anatomy of our protagonists… practicing in public used to make me a little timid, but these days I’m less bothered.
I bought an app from the iTunes store that allows a mannequin to be moved to any position you fancy, so I can see what sort of shapes I should be drawing, but it’s proved a bit of a pain to get the model in the right place.
I know Stephen Silver has a much simpler app, which is basically a range of characters drawn from a range of angles… but that’s £7…
Anyway.. practice, practice practice.

no time to write today, have to catch a train to Bolton for a meeting tomorrow, so rushing this in before I think about leaving the house.
racing away with the G-pen, and my new windsor and Newton Indian ink…
I’m not sure I like it, it doesn’t blotch as much as the DELETER ink… but what the heck, it’s all about feel. Soundtrack today is R4 Infinite monkey cage.
Once we get through the current part of the story, I’m handing the writing over to Adam, I’m hoping Dom will join in again, and maybe do a bit of inking? Perhaps we need another target to work towards… maybe next years thought bubble?
Wow, I’m well ahead of myself this week. All done by Saturday Evening.
So as the shock troops spread out things are going to get a trifle tasty… Eric better get himself down to the cellar to sort out those other poor souls… but watch out for the other inmates.
Art stuff this week was the DELETER G pen, which has a reasonably flexible nib, and some Windsor and Newton Indian Ink… I’ve been trying to get hold of some since UK webcomics Thing… It’s ok,didn’t blotch once, though I’m not sure it has the tightness of the DELETER No 3. All drawn in a Daler sketch book, big black areas filled with a brush. Some of the ragged edges tidied with a RTRING isograph 0.3mm
Soundtrack: I believe in yesterday, an Audible audiobook from Tim Moore, about historical re-enactment.
I got the HELLBOY Masks and Monsters trade from the library today (I love my Library), and it’s a cracking romp, with Nazi’s AND Batman… what more could you want.
It’s my Birthday on Monday, I’ll be 44… time to reflect on all the stuff I do, and plot a path for the future.
A new start, a new job… working on the pc is proving more tricky than anticipated. Photoshop is doing some weird trapping around outlines. I’m not sure how to get past it. .. though my heart says buy a mac.
So blood everywhere, a severely damaged team, and a mad doctor on the loose.
Things are warming up.
Art stuff, sketched in Daler sketch book with 0.5mm pencil,, scanned in using my canonscan lide 25 scanner, then inked and coloured in photoshop elements.
I think I may try to get back to inking on paper, whilst I work out issues with PS.
Soundtrack: Minus by Beck, Fall away by The fray and Conqueeeessst by the White Stripes.
… and were back.
The day job I’ve had for the past six years ends on Friday, and it’s caused a lot of change in the way I lead my life. I’m very lucky to have a ten month contract with an excellent team of extremely talented and pleasant people to tide me over… but things won’t be the same.
Probably the biggest change for the comic is that I’ve got to learn how to work in Windows 7, as my macbook pro, wasn’t really mine, and has to go back to the firm I’m leaving.
So Windows 7 does things differently, I’ve not got any of the fonts I use, and need to make a visit to BLAMBOT to sort that out.
Photoshop elelments works differently…I’ve got to learn to deselect stuff and I’ve got to get used to the most random filesystem I’ve come across. On the positive side the drivers I just downloaded for my wacom seem to integrate the tablet really well at an OS level.
For the story hopefully things will be back to their old fashioned sepia by next Monday, once I’ve worked out where all the brushes I need are.
